As I was looking up at my
new kitty cat friend, I thought to myself (again, because I was not a regular sort of a kid):
Has there ever been a person who was really scared of the dentist, looked up at this poster, and
thought, 'Of course! I just need to hang in there and everything will be perfectly fine.'
Sadly that is not the way life works!
And the reason it doesn't work has nothing to do with cute
kitties.
Simply being presented with good information or useful advice is not enough for change to take place. If it
were enough, then encouraging posters and inspirational bumper stickers would be all we need to heal and take positive action towards achieving our goals.
But the way our subconscious mind works means that we can't simply rewrite the stories and beliefs we hold about the world by introducing a new thought.
On one level, this is a good thing. If we were able to change our beliefs that easily, then we might be surprised by a dog barking unexpectedly and be petrified of dogs for the rest of our lives.
On another level, it is frustrating. We may intellectually know something is safe for us to do, but because we can't just rewrite our subconscious mind, we end up stuck in old patterns of fear and inaction.
That is the reason I love tapping so much!
Tapping gives us access to the old stories and beliefs held in our subconscious mind and allows us to transform them into beliefs that serve us and allow us to live the lives we want.
Unfortunately just because tapping can help us to make these changes, it doesn't mean we actually create the change we want.
