Good morning,
One of the worst things you can say to someone struggling with an issue is "Don't worry about it...it's all in your mind!"
When someone says that, we hear: "You are overreacting. There are no real issues. You are acting as if it is much worse than it is."
It really hurts to have our emotional experience dismissed.
Even with that being said, sometimes there are stories that really ARE all in the mind and have no grounding in truth.
For example, I might think that I am not worthy of being loved and
accepted.
That isn't true...it is all in my mind.
BUT merely dismissing a story that is "just in your mind" is not a useful way to respond.
For me, this flags an issue that needs to be addressed head on!
When we have a belief about ourselves or the
world lodged in our subconscious mind, it doesn't matter if we consciously know it is untrue, because we will act as if it is true.
So, instead of dismissing the belief as trivial or silly, we need to
lean into it and change it into something useful.
This week in the podcast we are exploring how the subconscious mind's beliefs and understanding of the world impacts every action we take AND how we can
transform the beliefs that are "only in our mind".
If we can change the way the subconscious mind understands the world, taking new actions becomes so much easier.
