Good morning,
For more than 15 years I have been working with clients around the issue of self-sabotage and have noticed a consistent pattern that shows up again and again...
First, my clients know what to do, they know how to do it, they have everything they need to take action AND they know why taking action is useful.
Second, they don't complete the actions that they know they want to take! This can show up in many forms. Not completing the action can look like starting and stopping, deciding something else is more important, chasing shiny objects, falling prey to avoidant, mind-numbing behaviors like endless scrolling through social media, or deciding they aren't quite ready for action by spending time learning even more
things first.
It is classic self-sabotaging behavior. (The one I engage in the most is deciding something else is more important as a way of avoiding the task that is truly important.)
Third, they then beat themselves up for not taking the action they know they should be taking, creating feelings of shame and failure.
Fourth, they feel defeated (some have even described themselves as giant losers) because they know they should be doing this, but for some reason they can't.
Fifth, they give themselves a pep talk on how they can do this thing! And then they return to the beginning of the cycle to continue the same loop of distraction, not taking action, and feeling bad about it.
Finally, they give up and move on to something else, stating that "It just wasn't the right time for me to be doing [this thing that would improve their lives]."
This cycle breaks my heart!
The reason it breaks my heart is because I know how much better someone's life can be when they take the action they need to take towards a life in which they thrive and reach their potential.
Every morning I start my working day by saying my "business why" out loud. I say:
"The reason I am sitting at my desk today is to support
people in consistently taking authentic actions. When people take authentic actions they create lives that they love. When they create lives that they love, their world is better, which makes the world better, which makes my world better. I am committed to supporting people in doing that."
This is so much a part of my work that I don't describe myself as a tapper or tapping practitioner. Instead, when people ask me what I do I say, "I help people to eliminate self-sabotage." If they ask how, then I talk about tapping.
For me tapping is the tool AND creating authentic lives is the goal.
The topic
of my Art of Delivery class this month is how to release and remove the unhelpful beliefs we hold in our subconscious mind that lead to self-sabotage.
BECAUSE the reality is, if you are sabotaging
yourself, you have a subconscious belief that is holding you back from taking action. You might be able to muscle your way through taking one or two of these actions, but if your subconscious says it is unsafe to take action, that you are not allowed to take action, or that you are unworthy of the outcome, then you will not take action.
An act of will is not enough to overcome a belief in the subconscious mind.
I am offering this class one more time this Sunday, October 22nd at 12 noon Eastern on Zoom.
And the best part is you can join us for just $1.
But that's not all! You will also receive recordings of the class (both audio-only and video) so that you can revisit the teaching as many times as you need OR watch later if you can't join us live.
You can also attend three follow-up Zoom sessions where I will answer questions about what is covered in the class. I offer these bonus sessions to give you time to try out what you learn on your own, and then have a chance to get help with
questions or issues that come up.
You really get the 2-hour training session (with recordings), and three follow-up calls for only $1.
