Good morning,
One of my favorite sessions to teach is called "What were you thinking?"
It is a workshop for parents and teachers on the biochemistry of the adolescent brain and how it impacts teenage behavior. I chose the title "What were you thinking?" because it is typically what every adult asks after a teenager has done something foolish.
I designed the workshop to teach caring adults how they can help their teens be more thoughtful and present, and how to make better choices. When teenagers can do this, they are more likely to take responsibility for their actions.
This week's podcast is NOT about that topic.
Instead, it is about how I want you to start taking less responsibility. I know that sounds odd, but more than likely you are taking too much responsibility in your life.
It is great to hold yourself accountable for your choices, but when you start taking responsibility for outcomes that you cannot control, problems can arise.
You end up beating yourself up for how things are not turning out how you would like. You waste time and energy trying to change outcomes and situations beyond your control. What's worse, you don't focus your attention on the parts of your life you do control.
The podcast this week covers how you are taking too much responsibility AND what you can do about it so that you are investing your resources and tapping in areas where you can create real and lasting change.
This week's teaching is available in both audio and video formats.
