Good afternoon,
As a practitioner I listen very closely to my clients.
And I don't just mean that I am practicing good active listening with my clients.
I am paying attention to every word they use.
This is because we emotionally respond to the world not as it is, but how
we describe it.
The example I always give when talking about this idea is of a client of mine, "James", who years ago said, "Everyone at work hates me!"
Obviously, if you walked into work thinking everyone in the office hates you it
would impact every part of your working life (and probably a good deal of time away from work).
When James said that you could see the emotion grow in his body language.
I asked him a simple question. "Everybody?"
He paused and said, "Well not everybody, but Judy and David have it out for me?"
Even though he was now talking about two co-workers having it out for him, his mood and emotion changed and lightened.
This is because we emotionally respond to the world not as it is, but how we describe it.
This week in the podcast, as we continue our Tapping Mini-Tools series, I share with you the number one word I listen for when working with clients. It is a word we
use everyday AND we don't realize the emotional baggage it carries.
Not only do I talk about how this word can cause us issues, I share how to use different words which are much healthier emotionally. We even do a little tapping!
