Good morning,
Because of my ADHD, staying focused has always been an issue for me.
For example, when I was a teenager and I was asked to clean up my room the process would look like this. I would spend 45 minutes in my room, touch everything that was in my room, and the room would be no cleaner.
This is because I would be working on one thing and then I would be distracted by something else. A few minutes later something else would
catch my eye.
The process would continue like this. Time would pass and nothing would get cleaned.
I realized the only way I would get anything done was to make sure I stayed focused. The way I would do this is I would say the task I was
doing out loud until it was done.
"Pick up the socks...pick up the socks...pick up the socks...pick up the socks...organize the magazines...organize the magazines...organize the magazines... organize the magazines..."
And
so on.
I can be just as easily distracted when I am tapping.
I sit down to tap on an issue. As I do the round of tapping I bump into other issues that are related. I start tapping on that issue,
which brings up new issues. Then I tap on the new new issue.
When this happens it is very easy to move on to the next issue and the next issue and the next issue.
The net result is exactly the same as when I was distracted while cleaning my
room. I have tap on lots of issues, but I haven't made any progress on any of them.
This week in the podcast I share with you the simple tool I use to keep myself focused when I am tapping. By using this little process it makes sure that I stay on task so that I am not only spending time tapping, but also getting results from that tapping.
