Good morning,
Recently, I was working with a client I'll call "Bethany".
Bethany was struggling with repeatedly putting off something that was super easy for her to do, but for some reason she wasn't taking action until the very last minute. Then, when she eventually ended up doing it, she was rushed and did a poor job.
I led her through one of my favorite processes to uncover the reason for the resistance to taking action. After
doing a little work, we pinpointed what was standing in her way and before she even finished naming it aloud, she interrupted herself in disgust and irritation.
She spat out, "Why am I even saying that? It's just not true!"
This happens to all of us.
When a thought, especially a critical one, is left unchecked in our subconscious minds, it can prevent us from taking action. Sometimes the critical thoughts that question our ability or worth can tip us into an emotional spiral of self-loathing.
I know that sounds extreme, but it is true.
In his early EFT training videos Gary Craig called these thoughts "the comedies of our mind". While bouncing around the subconscious these thoughts are crippling, but when they are brought into the light of day we can easily identify them as untrue and
ridiculous.
Our natural response to one of these farcical thoughts when said out loud is something like what Bethany said: "Why am I even saying that? It's just not true!"
Join me in this week's podcast as I explore how verbalizing these
thoughts can reveal their true nature and how we can defang them to render them powerless. In addition, I share with you how I incorporate this idea into my daily life and into my tapping practice.
This might be the simplest idea I have ever shared in the podcast, but it is essential in the healing process.
