Good morning,
I would be willing to bet that I listen to more podcasts about sports than just about anyone else in the tapping world.
I grew up playing sports, played soccer all the way through university, and to this day I love watching physical genius in action!
A few weeks ago, I was listening to the podcast This is Football with Kevin Clark in which Kevin's guest was the journalist, Albert Breer. Before they did a
deep dive into the previous weekend of action, Albert told this story:
Do you want to hear something hilarious? My dog Gunner is scared of me when I watch Ohio State football, and I'm not even kidding.
I can actually remember when it first started. It was a Penn State game, the one we lost where they blocked the field goal and they ran it back for a touchdown. It was just a terrible way to lose a game!
My wife Emily is upstairs and she asks "Why is Gunner cowering in the corner? I think it's because you were freaking out that
whole game. Your tension rubbed off on him."
I'm like, "There is no way!"
So then Ohio State played another tight game a couple of weeks later and it happened again. Now Gunner
knows when Ohio State is on and he is on eggshells.
If you are an animal lover, this story holds no surprises.
We know we are in a relationship and in community with the animals in our lives, which also means we know that our emotional
state impacts them.
When people reach out to me for help tapping for their animals, I hear:
How do I tap so that my dog will stop [insert annoying thing they do]?
How do I tap so that my cat will stop feeling [negative emotion]?
How do I tap so that my pet doesn't freak out every time we go to the vet?
AND I totally understand these requests.
People want better physical and emotional health for the animals they love. When we want better for another being, we are looking to see how we can help them to change.
Even though changing them might create the biggest impact, it isn't necessarily the place we have much (or any) control.
The place we start is with ourselves.
Whenever
I am tapping for an animal, I realize there are three parts of the equation:
- Our animal
- The relationship with our animal
- Ourselves
While it makes sense that we think of the animal first in that list because they are the focus of our attention, the most effective place to start is with ourselves. (And this applies equally when tapping for humans!)
Here are the three parts in order of what we can control:
- Ourselves
- The relationship with our animal
- Our animal
By starting where we have the most control, we are able to create the greatest amount of change.
To make it easier for animals lovers to know where to start and get more out of their tapping for pets, I have created the Tapping for Pets: A Practical Guide to Supporting Your Animal’s Well-Being program.
This program is designed to help you to tap for yourself, the relationship you have with your animal, and the animal's well-being. Tapping for all
three areas will create the greatest amount of change.
To make it as easy to follow as possible, the program is presented as tools you can follow step by step, giving you the resources to know your next best step to create support and care.
