Good morning,
When I first learned to tap almost twenty years ago, one of the first issues I tapped for in a focused way was my debilitating social anxiety.
As I was working on the issue, a crystal-clear memory sprang to mind.
In my last two years of university, I was a Resident Assistant (RA), which meant I was in charge of one floor of our hall of residence. I ran events for the students, was the first point of contact for any
freshmen who were struggling, and I helped to enforce the communal rules.
All the RAs arrived on campus two weeks before semester started to prepare for the school year. One free afternoon I was hanging out with two other RAs, Eric and Grant.
Eric and Grant were ex-military and several years older than me. They had returned to school after their service (both were discharged early for medical reasons) to complete undergraduate degrees. We hung out for around 90 minutes and in that time I didn't say a single word. Not one!
If you know me at all, that sounds shocking. My particular version of social
anxiety made it hard for me to show up, but I was fine once I was there. The fact that I didn't talk for that long might well be a personal record.
In unearthing this memory, I realized at that moment I had felt like I was someone's younger brother, allowed to tag along with the big kids only because of my mom's insistence.
I felt like an imposter and that I didn't belong.
Experiencing imposter syndrome is crippling. It makes us feel small, weak, and vulnerable.
No matter how big our dreams are or how fervently we long for them to become reality, feeling like an imposter means we will repeatedly stop ourselves from taking positive action towards achieving them.
AND then to make matters worse, we beat ourselves up for not taking action.
This week in the podcast I share how we can uncover any of the imposter stories we are carrying and, most importantly, how to tap for them.

This is a terrific way to start the new year. I encourage you to check it out and tap along with me. You deserve to release all the imposter stories you are carrying!
