Recently, I had a conversation with a seasoned practitioner who has been working with clients for almost twenty years. She wanted to arrange one-on-one sessions with me to clear some
resistance that had come up for her.
In the middle of our conversation, she got a little sheepish and it was clear she felt embarrassed. She lowered her voice and looked away from the camera as she admitted, "I help clients all the time, but I can't seem to get tapping to work for me."
I hear versions of this story from practitioners and skilled tappers more often than you might expect.
There is a simple explanation for why this happens. When we are working with someone else, we are not in the midst of the emotions that come up, which makes it easy for
us to reach for the right tapping tool in the moment.
But when you are tapping on your own, you are right in the middle of the emotional storm. That makes it difficult to know where to start, what to tap on first, and how to create momentum towards relief.
That is why a head full of knowledge about tapping is commonly not enough to create the meaningful change you want in your life.
Those who are most successful at tapping alone don't have to think about where to begin. They just start tapping naturally, fully present, with their attention on the issues at hand, rather than becoming entangled in thoughts
about methods or approaches.
