Good morning,
For years, I had a love-hate relationship with the name Gary Craig gave to his version of tapping: Emotional Freedom Techniques.
The reason that I struggled with the name is because I thought it implied the goal was to be free of our emotions.
My good friend, and one of the best tapping trainers in the world, Jondi Whitis completely turned me around in my frustration. She said, "I believe the name says we are
creating freedom to feel our emotions, not freedom from them."
In that moment, all of my reservations about the name melted away.
The funny (or maybe hypocritical) thing is, as much as I resisted the idea that tapping was supposed to free me
of my emotions, there are times when I do tap specifically not to feel my emotions.
When I am doing this, I'm not hiding my emotions, or suppressing or ignoring them.
Instead, I am creating the space I need to manage my present moment, with
the intention to respond to the emotion when and where it's healthiest for me.
This week in the podcast, I explore the idea of when it can be a good idea to tap to not feel your emotions AND the healthiest way to do that.
Even if this isn't
something you would immediately gravitate to, I encourage you to join me to explore this approach and I'd love to hear your thoughts when you have done so.

PS: Feeling overwhelmed by the state of the world? I have updated the "Tapping in times of turmoil" page with nine more tap-along audios and scripts. Three are specifically designed for children. You can access all of them
