Good afternoon,
I have a number of learning disabilities that mostly impact my ability to read and write.
So much so that when I first created this website (and before I had an amazing editor), I received an email from one of my readers which began "I know English isn't your first language..."
BUT because of my other abilities (super strong analytical skills and an excellent memory) my learning disabilities were missed. I didn't present as a dyslexic student, but instead looked like an extremely smart kid who was lazy, unfocused, and
bored.
In my penultimate year of high school my English Literature teacher took me to the guidance counselor, Mr. S, at our high school and said, "I think Gene is dyslexic."
The guidance counselor looked up from what he was doing and responded "He made it this far, so he will be fine," and then made a gesture as if he were dismissing us from his office.
On one hand Mr. S was right. I am fine. Even though my learning disabilities impact many areas of my life, they don't define me.
On the other hand, just because I was "fine" doesn't mean it couldn't have been better. Once I got to university I finally received a formal diagnosis for my learning disability. Only then did I truly understand how my brain works. With this
knowledge I was able to create situations that played to my strengths and have even been able to transform some of the ways my brain functions.
"Oh, never mind. I'm fine really. Others have it so much worse!"
The story of Mr. S dismissing me from his office came to mind a few weeks ago when I was talking to one of my clients.
We were talking about an emotional burden she was carrying because of an unexpected transition that had complicated her work life.
While explaining the situation she stopped herself mid-sentence and said "Oh, never mind. I'm fine really. Others have it so much worse!"
I affirm and appreciate the fact that others do in fact have it worse, but that does not mean she isn't also entitled to feeling better.
Stop being OK with "fine"
I imagine there are areas of your life that you want to be better.
You might want to:
- be physically healthier
- love yourself more
- trust yourself more
- grow your business
- find deep, lasting relationships
- just be happier
And at the same time there is something (or a number of somethings) holding you back.
Like my client, you might put yourself last because others have it so much worse.
You might not know where to start.
You might feel like it's too late.
You might feel like the work is too hard.
You might not know where to start.
You might be afraid that you will make progress, only to backslide.
You might be worried that others will judge you for trying…or
...for wanting more.
...for believing more is possible.
...for leaving them behind.
OR you might just feel so overwhelmed with so many issues that you haven't a clue where to start.
You are not alone!
That list above is a very human list of worries. Or they might not be a human list of worries, but they are certainly my list of worries when it comes to transformation and healing.
That is the reason I created the ID Transformation Retreat.
The ID Transformation Retreat is a one-day experience offering you the opportunity to face your fears around transformation.
We will spend the day clearing the limiting beliefs you know are there, finding the limiting beliefs that are hidden from you and, most importantly, creating deep, lasting transformation.
The retreat is taking place on April 23rd (that's this Saturday).
There are only 100 seats open for the event as I want it to be as personal as possible.
Don't miss this chance to move on from being just "fine".
It is your opportunity to heal, transform, and thrive.

I have no idea when I'll do another event like this again. Don't miss it.
If you have any questions about the day, just hit reply to this note and I will get right back to you.
I look forward to seeing you on the 23rd.
Gene
