Good morning,
A few weeks ago I sent an email to my friend and licensed mental health professional, Robin Bilazarian, asking her if she would be willing to do an interview about compassion fatigue.
When I sent the email I thought our conversation would be about a particular type of burnout experienced by people in the helping professions. In my mind compassion fatigue was characterized by caring too much.
Then we did the interview. Within the first 90 seconds of our conversation, I realized that my understanding of compassion fatigue was all wrong.
Compassion fatigue is not only different from burnout, it is much more dangerous.
When I scheduled the interview I had planned to share it later in the summer after finishing the current Healing Disposition series I've been doing.
Because of what is going on in the world right now, especially if you work with clients, I encourage you to listen to this podcast right away.
Even if you don't work with clients in a professional setting, but you are the go-to person in everyone's life, you will find this conversation really helpful.
Robin and I explore:
- The difference between compassion fatigue and burnout
- The signs of compassion fatigue
- Why current events mean we are particularly susceptible to compassion fatigue
- How to prevent and how to heal compassion fatigue
You can listen to our conversation here: http://tappingqanda.com/464
I know you will find this useful.
Make sure you are taking care of yourself,
Gene
