Good morning,
Feeling judged by others is a really difficult experience for most of us.
I know your social media feed is filled with inspirational quotes about how you shouldn't care what other people think, encouraging you just to be yourself and celebrate your individuality.
I'm not saying those sentiments are wrong, but I think that those ideas miss a layer of complexity around this issue, which is about more than merely "tuning out the haters".
At a biological and subconscious level humans have evolved to pay attention to what others think about us. Thousands of years ago when our ancestors lived in small, close-knit tribes, exclusion from your tribe meant death. That isn't an exaggeration, it was reality for those times.
Today, when we face the judgment of others, a primitive part of our brain fires off warning signals, believing that we are in life-threatening danger. Simply reminding ourselves to "dance like nobody's watching" is not enough to overcome this deep-seated fear.
This week's podcast explains a simple way to transform this fear of judgment and rejection that is much more than a quote on a clever social media post. Listen to me teach you:
- The difference between judgment and evaluation
- How that distinction can make all the difference
- A simple way to tap to release fear of judgment and turn it into something useful
The approach is straightforward and it's one I use with my clients all the time. The beautiful thing about the process is once you understand it, you won't have to return to the tap-along or tapping script because it is so simple.
