Good morning,
One of my favorite portmanteaus is the word comparanoia. It is a combination of the words comparison and paranoia. Comparanoia is the perfect way of describing feeling bad when you look at how wonderful someone else's life looks on their carefully curated social media feed.
It is a simple fact of life online that people don't show every detail of their lives on their social media feeds. Mainly we only share the very best and brightest parts of our lives on social media.
I am as guilty of this as anyone. If you follow me on Instagram, you might think that I am living the dream here in New York City and my life is all about amazing meals, stunning theater, fabulous street art, and beautiful sunsets.
That is part of it, but it clearly isn't the full picture.
Even in a pandemic people's social media feeds are filled with impressive home improvement projects, examples of creative expression during lock down, and beautiful baked goods.
Looking at these well curated feeds can wear us down because our lives are often a long way from what we see online. Intellectually we know their lives aren't like that either, but seeing those perfect images over and over is hard.
We start to compare our lives to what we see others posting online. We start to feel like we are falling behind or, even worse, failing.
This week I have for you a tap-along audio and printable tapping script to help in those times when you feel like your life is inferior to that of the people around you.
Even if this isn't an issue at the front of your mind (or heart), it is a tap-along that will be calming for all of us.
