Quit is NOT a 4-letter word

Last week, an American football player by the name of Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the National Football League because of his physical health.

The fact that he retired for those reasons is unremarkable.

What was not was that he is only 29 years old, he retired two weeks before the new season was about to begin, and by retiring he cost himself more than $200 million in future earnings. (And, no, that is not a typo. $200 million is probably a conservative number. He will probably miss out on much more than that.)

Because of all of these factors, it became quite a news story in the sports media.

Many people criticized Andrew. He was censured for letting down his team and the fans. His heart and dedication were challenged.

He was called a quitter!

This is a person who had injured his ankle, calf, arm, and internal organs. He woke up in pain every morning. More than likely he will wake up every morning for the rest of his life in pain.

And he was called a QUITTER!

But in reality quitting can be a positive. Sometimes it is good to change our minds and let go.

There are tasks, activities, commitments, relationships, and activities that you need to quit. They are holding you back. They are making your life worse. They are not who you are.

You need to quit BUT that doesn't mean you are a quitter. It means you are making good, thoughtful choices. It means you are being healthier. It means you are taking care of yourself.

We quit things all the time, but because of how others might judge us, quitting can be difficult.
