Good morning,
Recently on the The Right Time podcast, host Bomani Jones was talking to Taylor Rooks about what it is like living in the spotlight. Taylor's career in sports media has accelerated quickly in the last few years and she has gone from working in relative obscurity to national media outlets.
Bomani went through a similar meteoric rise himself in the last five years.
They were talking about what it is like now dealing with the expectations of their audience. In the conversation Bomani quoted poet Dennis Cooley from his book Inscriptions: Prairie Poetry.
The quote he referenced was: "I am not who you think I am; I am not who I think I am; I am who I think you think I am."
He was reflecting that we act in a way that is based on how we think we are perceived and, in many cases, we even define ourselves in these terms.
It's clear how this way of defining ourselves isn't a helpful way to live.
In this week's podcast I explore why we do this, how to recognize if we are doing it, and some tapping to help us to clear this trap.
As always, I have both a tap-along audio version and a printable script.
You can find the tap-along right here: http://tappingqanda.com/376
Blessings,
Gene
