Good morning,

When Gary Craig first introduced EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) he included the use of the SUDs scale as a way of measuring progress when tapping.

The SUDs scale was developed by Joseph Wolpe, a psychiatrist who was a pioneer in behavior therapy. It stands for Subject Units of Distress and it's a simple way to track your own progress.

As useful as the SUDs scale is in a single tapping session, it isn't super useful from one session to the next. That is because it is subjective and our tapping sessions are influenced by everything that is happening in our day, not just the specific issue we are working on.

Because it's hard to gauge our progress from session to session, my friend Mary Ayers has come up with three lenses that we can use to measure our success.

Her simple approach allows us to:

  • Understand what is working so we can keep doing it.
  • Identify what is not working so we can come up with a different approach.
  • See the progress that is often missed that will help us to gain momentum in our transformational work.

If you are working on an issue over more than one tapping session, this approach is essential to get the most out of your tapping.

I would love to hear how you incorporate this into your own tapping.

Blessings,

Gene
