Why I don't talk about 1 minute miracles (and what I talk about instead)

Good morning,

Recently, I was interviewed by Miriam Schulman for the Inspiration Place Podcast. The podcast is aimed at artists and Miriam wanted me to introduce tapping to people with no prior knowledge of it.

During the interview Miriam asked me to share the most amazing success story I have had with tapping.

I told her "I don't actually like to talk about the most amazing results I have had with tapping. Not because I am trying to hide anything, but I think if we spend too much time talking about the most amazing outcomes, we start to believe they are the norm, which is not the case."

It's the same reason that I don't spend much time on one-minute and one-session miracles when I am presenting a workshop. It creates unreal and unhelpful expectations.

For example, years ago I was tapping with a friend of mine. She didn't really want to tap on her issue and was mostly tapping with me so that her husband would stop nagging her about trying tapping.

When we began the session she was tapping along (resentfully), not believing it would work. Fifteen minutes later she was frustrated at the round of tapping we did because it didn't completely resolve a past trauma!

That is an amazing journey, from disbelief to dissatisfaction in the time you'd take to fold a pile of laundry.

Our level of expectation at the beginning of a tapping session has a huge impact on our level of satisfaction with the outcome.

To this end, I have changed the way I approach tapping, both for my own issues and with my clients.

When I am working on an issue I now ask myself the question "What is the next better emotion that I can feel?" In doing this I am setting my expectation to feel better, rather than to feel perfect.

In this week's podcast I share a simple four-step process that you can use to put this idea into action.

It will help you to 1) get more out of your tapping sessions and 2) help you to be satisfied with the results so that you are more likely to tap again in the future.

This means you win in the moment AND win in the future.
