Good morning,
Families are complicated.
No one's family is perfect, and some are less perfect than others.
On one hand there is the biological need to connect to family, plus the weight of cultural norms around what family is ideally supposed to represent. On the other hand, we wouldn't necessarily choose to be connected to some of our family members.
Biological and cultural factors may lead us to make choices where family are concerned that we wouldn't make in any other context. This isn't all bad.
Many people are willing to reach out, connect, and support family members in ways that they wouldn't with anyone else.
AND at the same time we are more likely to tolerate bad choices and disrespect from family members.
A few weeks ago I was tapping my client, "Matt", who was having a hard time with his brother. Although Matt loves his brother, he tends to cause all sorts of havoc within the family. So much so that Matt hates going to any family function that his brother also attends.
Matt shared that he really wants what is best for his brother and I completed the sentence "and you also want him to stay 1000 miles away!"
We were on a Zoom video call so I could see Matt light up at the thought and start to laugh.
Where family is involved, it can be hard to make the choices that are right for us.
This week I have a tap-along audio and a printable tapping script to help navigate the tricky terrain of loving your family AND not wanting to allow them to hurt you.
I am lucky enough to have a family that I love and I enjoy being around all of them! But that doesn't mean that my family relationships are perfect. Even if you're like me, you will still find a lot of value in this tapping.

Family is what family is. We can't necessarily change them, but we can learn to lessen their impact on our choices so that we choose what is best for us.
Go and tap right now. It will only take a few minutes.
Let me know how this works for you,
Gene
