One of the biggest challenges I face as a practitioner, especially when working with clients who have lots of personal growth experience, is getting them out of their story.

What I mean by this is that clients often show up with what they believe to be the reason for their current struggles. It is the story they are telling about their issue.

And many times they are wrong.

This isn't a criticism or a complaint. I have the exact same problem!

As humans we are naturally inclined to formulate reasons for why things are the way they are. One of the ways we stay safe is by coming up with cause and effect explanations of how the world works.

The problem comes when we make the wrong interpretation.

For example, I was recently working with a client who was having a hard time speaking in public. Before we started she explained that when she was in 3rd grade she messed up a presentation and everyone laughed at her.

That would be a logical reason for the problem.

As we worked on the issue it turned out that it had nothing to do with that incident back in 3rd grade, but instead it was rooted in a belief that other adults don't take her seriously.

If we refer to an incorrect story for why we are the way we are, then no amount of tapping will clear the issue because we are tapping on the wrong thing.

This week I have 3 steps you can take before you start to tap on your issues to ensure you aren't getting caught up in the wrong story.

You can find them right here: http://tappingqanda.com/?p=10186

As always, if you any questions or comments you can just reply to this message.
