Good afternoon,
I have organized the home screen of my smartphone so that I have immediate access to all the apps I use the most.
These include the obvious apps for email, maps, music, podcasts, camera, contacts, and calendar. There are also four social media apps.
Most mornings the first app I open on my phone is Instagram. A quick check of my usage stats shows that Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are three of my six most used apps.
On the whole, I think the benefits from social media are a net positive in my life. I first met many of the people I now consider as close friends through social media. There are countless resources I never would have found if it weren’t for social media recommendations.
But there is a dark side to social media. We can get pulled into fruitless conversations about politics, religion, and beliefs. We can be angered and overwhelmed by the amount of bad news there is in the world. We can feel shamed because we are not living up to how others appear to be doing.
This week in the podcast I have a conversation with Jenn Goddard about the research behind how we are impacted by social media, what we can do to have a healthier relationship with it, and how we can tap to achieve that.
Even if you don't think social media is a negative in your life, I encourage you to listen because you may be unaware of some of the ways in which it affects you.

One of the consequences of seeing how great other people’s lives seem on social media is that it can activate our critical voice in a powerful way. It’s easy to be harshly self-critical if we feel we compare poorly with others.
I have created a simple eight-step process to help transform your critical voice into something useful.

I hope you are having a great day!

PS: On a personal note, I love Instagram. If you are on Instagram you can check out my attempts to become a better photographer at @genedavidbk and I promise not to lose any sleep if you don't.
Pod #217: EFT For Social Media Overwhelm w/ Jenn Goddard – Social media has become an almost unavoidable part of the modern world. Aside from its benefits, interacting on social media can also create feelings of stress, overwhelm and even shame. In this interview Jenn talks about why we react to social media the way we do and how we can tap to adopt a more balanced approach to it.
